Irish contacts: During my junior years I made important life-changing Irish contacts with the Connolly- Carews of Mount Armstrong and with fellow junior medal winner Paul Darragh. I also rode an Irish-bred called Ballymacduff. Later I jumped for Belgium in the Aga Khan at Dublin with Marco Codex. I was lucky to be able to jump in four Junior Europeans and had my best result at Cork in 1972 where our Belgian team took gold and I got silver on Condilus. Junior internationals: My brother Thierry won individual European Junior Championship silver medal at Budapest (1964) and team silver in Copenhagen (1966). This experience has had a profound influence on my life ever since.

As a result, I travelled to Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Japan and Hong Kong helping with the affiliation process. At that time he was trying to expand the FEI through getting more countries fully affiliated. International contacts: This began very early in my career when I met with Eric Rundle of the International Equestrian Federation. At the same time, I have been lucky to travel the world as a consultant to organisers and federations in many countries. For the past 35 years, my love of the sport has been centred here in Ireland. My father, Guy, show jumped and gave a great deal of his time to the Belgian equestrian federation. My grandfather had been deeply involved in racing. To the horse born: I was born in Belgium on a farm outside Ghent where ponies and horses were always a part of family life.
